Network Management & Fair Usage Policy

This policy outlines how we manage network traffic, what we consider fair use, and how we handle the rare cases when someone tries to run a data centre from their living room (please don’t).

1. Network Management

FibreTel is committed to a fast and reliable experience for all users. Here’s what we do (and don’t do) to maintain network performance:

  • No Rate Limiting: We do not throttle your connection based on how much data you use.
  • Service Prioritization: We prioritize essential real-time services like voice, IPTV, and DNS to ensure smooth performance.
  • DNS Filtering: Our DNS servers block known malware, phishing, and malicious domains to protect you.
  • Edge Blackholing: We proactively block known botnet and malware IP addresses at the edge of our network.
  • Default Port Blocking: We block most incoming traffic by default (e.g., SSH, FTP) to reduce attack surface.
  • No Traffic Shaping: We do not engage in traffic shaping, aside from the QoS prioritization mentioned above.

We don’t mess with your bandwidth unless we absolutely need to in order to maintain service quality for everyone.

2. Fair Usage Expectations

We believe in big usage allowances—but even “unlimited” has limits. Here’s what counts as fair use:

  • You can stream, game, work, and even mine some crypto.
  • You cannot resell or partition your connection to others (e.g., sharing FibreTel with your neighbour or running a hotel Wi-Fi).
  • Sharing your account, Wi-Fi password, or login credentials with people outside your household is not allowed.
  • If your usage is so heavy that it starts slowing down the entire neighbourhood, or clearly looks like a business operation on a residential plan, we reserve the right to investigate and take action.

Our goal isn’t to limit you—just to make sure everyone has a good experience.

3. Unlimited Plans

If your plan is labelled “unlimited,” that means we don’t cap your data or charge overage fees. However, all usage must still fall within the boundaries of reasonable residential use as outlined above.

4. Service Abuse

FibreTel prohibits the use of our network for malicious activity. That includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Operating or hosting a botnet
  • Running malware or phishing schemes
  • Persistent scanning, brute-force attacks, or network abuse

If we detect abuse, we may warn you, throttle your connection, or suspend service depending on the severity.

5. Net Neutrality & Transparency

We do not discriminate based on application, protocol, destination, or content. FibreTel is a net-neutral ISP, and we believe your connection should work the way you want it to (as long as it’s legal).
